Transportation Company - Martha

Company History: The railroad began operation in 1874, when the town of Oak Bluffs (then known as Cottage City) was booming. New Englanders were coming to the island of Martha's Vineyard in great numbers. The Old Colony railroad ran from Boston to the wharves of New Bedford and Woods Hole MA, creating a constant flow of visitors to the ferries, which in turn transported them to the island.

However, transportation between the towns of the island was not so great. The new railroad was created to help move people from Oak Bluffs to Edgartown on a nine mile track. The track was narrow gauge (3' wide). The line was run with a 0-6-0 named "Edgartown" which met the ferries at the Oak Bluffs dock.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
