Transportation Company - Piedmont & Northern (2010) - Railroad

Company History: The PNRW was established by the Patriot Rail shortline group in 2010 to take over operation of the 13 mile line (formerly part of the original Piedmont & Northern) between Gastonia and Mount Holly, North Carolina that is owned by the state. Citing poor traffic levels, Patriot informed the state that they would not renew their lease which expired in November of 2015. The Iowa Pacific shortline group assumed operation of the line at that point. They had no more luck than Patriot Rail and with other problems demanding their attention, Iowa Pacific did not renew their lease either. Progressive Rail took over in 2017 and seems to be having an easier time of it.
Successor/Parent History:
Patriot Rail operates 12 regional and freight short line railroads, a scenic rail excursion train, and five rail-related services companies with over 600 total rail miles across the United States.

Service capabilities include railcar storage, railcar repair and maintenance, railway clean-up and transfer, tank car cleaning and environmental services, contract switching, transloading, engineering services, excursion railroads, real estate, and track access.
