Transportation Company - Redmont - Railroad

Company History: RRC launched in 1995 to lease the 42 mile former Illinois Central line between Corinth, Mississippi and Red Bay, Alabama from the Mississippi-Alabama Railroad Authority. Redmont was owned by Sunshine Mills who is the primary customer on the railroad. Traffic includes grain, pet food, truck frames and recreational vehicles. In 2013, Sunshine Mills sold the railroad to the Mississippi Central who now operates it as their Redmont Division.
Successor/Parent History:
The MSCI was born in 1993 when the Kyle Railways shortline group sold their Natchez Trace Railway to the Pioneer Railcorp shortline group. Pioneer re-christened the line, Mississippi Central. It runs 51 miles from Grand Junction, Tennessee to Oxford, Mississippi. Until the mid-2000s, the line continued south to Coffeyville but University-Oxford Airport wanted to extend a runway across the MSCI route so the property was sold and the line abandoned south of the airport fence. Since then, MSCI has acquired 2 more disconnected routes. The first consists of 11 miles of line in Iuka, Mississippi and the second runs from Corinth, Mississippi 46 miles southeast to Red Bay, Alabama. Traffic includes aggregates, fertilizer, animal feed and forest products.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
