Company History: SWKR was launched in 1992 by the Kyle Railways shortline group to purchase the 76 mile former Southern Pacific route between Benson and Douglas, Arizona. SWKR moved both freight and tourists on the line but what little traffic there was on the Douglas end melted away. In 1997, SWKR applied to abandon everything past Curtis, just 7 miles from Benson. The railroad changed hands a few times with the Arizona Railroad Group (with hopes of restoring the whole line) winning out in 2003. The line past Curtis was finally pulled up ten years after the original application. San Pedro & Southwestern, now changed their reporting marks to SPSR, and continued to operate the remaining 7 miles of line. In 2018 the line was sold to the Ironhorse Resources shortline group and renamed San Pedro Valley Railroad now with SPVR reporting marks.
