Transportation Company - South Central Tennessee - Railroad

Company History: SCTR was launched in 1978 by the Kyle Railways shortline group to take over operation of the 51 mile former Nashville Chattanooga & St. Louis line between Colesburg and Hohenwald, Tennessee from Louisville & Nashville. In the early years, the line was run with a pair of GP7’s. Traffic during this period was dominated by wood chips with carbon black, paper, plastics and railroad ties also contributing to the bottom line. SCTR and the rest of the Kyle Railways group was sold to RailAmerica but RA immediately sold the line to an investor group headed by Henry Hohorst at the end of 2000. It is now part of the West Tennessee Rail Group.
Successor/Parent History:
This line began as a 1984 spinoff of Illinois Central Gulf then expanded greatly in 2001. Today, the WTNN runs from Corinth, Mississippi north completely through the western end of Tennessee to Fulton, Kentucky, plus a long branchline. The mainline and branch are both former Gulf Mobile & Ohio routes. Neighbors Canadian National and Norfolk Southern have been funding improvements to the WTNN mainline for use in their joint "Mid-America Corridor" linking northern Illinois and the southern states with a high capacity service lane. WTNN is related to South Central Tennessee Railroad and Tennken Railroad.
Brief History:
The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
