Transportation Company - Virginia Transit - Railroad

Company History: VTCo was opened in the last week of 1944 in the aftermath of an SEC decision that forced Virginia Electric & Power Company to divest itself of its streetcar lines. VTCo. became a subsidiary of United Transit Lines the following July. The operation included streetcar lines in Norfolk and Richmond (predecessor VE&PCo’s Petersburg, Virginia operation had converted to buses in 1936.) VTCo streetcar service ended in Norfolk in 1948. The last streetcar lines in Richmond, Virginia were replaced with bus service during Thanksgiving weekend of 1949.
