Albany Southern

Company History: The Albany Southern was formed in 1909 to takeover the line of the failed Albany & Hudson Railroad and related holdings. The 37 mile line provided interurban passenger and freight service between Albany and Hudson, New York using a combination of 3rd rail power with trolley wire for street trackage. By 1924, traffic was falling off and the company was conveyed to Eastern New York Utilities Corporation who was more interested in AS’s hydro-electric generating capacity than their railroad. The last train ran five years later.
