Company History: The BCRwy was established in 1895 to provide streetcar service to Belvidere, in northern Illinois. Belvidere was the location of the National Sewing Machine Company and moving workers back and forth to the plant was the prime purpose of the line. In 1906, the BCRwy was leased by the Elgin & Belvidere Electric Company, itself an interurban line that was building toward the city. After 20 years of trying and failing to turn a profit, the BCRwy was abandoned in 1915.
Brief History: The U.S. is a country of 50 states covering a vast swath of North America, with Alaska in the northwest and Hawaii extending the nation’s presence into the Pacific Ocean. Major Atlantic Coast cities are New York, a global finance and culture center, and capital Washington, DC. Midwestern metropolis Chicago is known for influential architecture and on the west coast, Los Angeles' Hollywood is famed for filmmaking.
