Company History: The Cahuenga (pronounced Ka-WHENG-Ga) Valley was the popular name of the area between the Santa Monica Mountains and Baldwin Hills northwest of Los Angeles, California although the name has not been generally used in more than a century. The Cahuenga Valley Railroad was established by a group of land speculators in 1887 to build a narrow gauge line from Los Angeles to what is now Hollywood. The line was acquired in 1895 by a predecessor of the Pacific Electric Railway and later electrified then standard gauged.
