Transportation Company - Central Ontario - Railroad

Company History: The COR was established in 1882 with the sale and charter amendment of the Prince Edward County Railway which ran from a connection with Grand Trunk Railway at Trenton, Ontario to Picton. The company began expanding the railroad toward the gold mining area at Eldorado and what was hoped would be an iron mine at Coe Hill. The iron deposit at Coe Hill turned out to be a dud and the railway was extended again to mines at Bancroft. Through a pair of subsidiaries, the company set their sights on a junction with the Ottawa Arnprior & Parry Sound at Whitney but by 1907 they had gotten as far as Wallace, over 25 kilometers short of their goal. The Central Ontario Railway was merged into Canadian Northern Railway in 1911. The last surviving piece of the COR route was abandoned by Canadian National in 1985.
