Company History: The C&C was established in 1883 with the goal of linking its namesake towns in southern Illinois. In 1894 the C&C expanded with the acquisition of the Sparta & Ste. Genevieve Railroad and the Centralia & Altamont Railroad. The following year they purchased the Randolph County Railroad which became the C&C branch from Sparta to Roborough. In 1897, the company fell into receivership. The company was sold at foreclosure, becoming part of the Illinois Southern Railway in the spring of 1900. This route later became part of the Missouri-Illinois Railroad.
